gobble gobble gobble

it's our first thanksgiving in the new house. i made a traditional thanksgiving dinner yesterday since i had to work today. of course it came out great and now we have our fill of left overs. can you say turkey sandwitches?? yum!
we're in the process of making cranberry vodka as the holiday is soon approaching. it will make good gifts!
now to figure out about putting up a tree i the house for christmas. i thinnk it may be a bad idea. i can see it now: thumper lifting his leg to christen the trunk, bambi eating the lower branches and geez and chester scaling to see who can climb the highest... happy holidays!

falling into fall

it's november and the weather has been really nice. finally starting to meet some of the other neighbors around the area. the pugs have been loving their home and backyard. they don't know what to do with all the space. our huge oaks are needing some tending to, there are a few shifty branches that are going to need fixing. so after the new year we'll need to find a tree doctor. too bad there aren't any maples or something to change their leaves into fall colors. palms and oaks really don't do the fall justice!
inside i've gotten the living and dining room and kitchen all free of clutter. i'm attempting to organize my closets, sewing and computer room by the end of the month, while the boy works on his room. i wonder which one of us will get done first? they're both in serious disarray.
turkey day is coming up. it seems i'm on schedule to work that day, so the boy will need to make the turkey without me... thanks my lucky stars he can cook!

the "fire" place

we're both native to florida. that being said our fireplace is like a new toy.
with the threat of a hurricane, we received little rain, but were left with a nice cold front, of sorts. the deal was: on the first day the temperature went below 70, because natives get cold at 69 ;) ... we were to build our first fire. the boy started the fire around 9:30 and made a wine and cheese platter to snack on. i came in around 10:30 to a warm living room complete with a roaring fire and the pugs. fire places are alien to me, i've never had one, so it's intriguing to see fire in the house, and not dial 911. the boy went to bed a bit ago, leaving me to tend to the hearth. doesn't that sound odd... hearth?? anyways, the duraflame log, (which was to produce 3 hours of warmth and crackling fire goodness) was rounding the 4 hours mark at 1:30. i was really getting sleepy, really really sleepy. the embers are still glowing so i'm writing in hopes they will fade out so i can sleep at ease.
now we've kicked on the heat, weather channel said it's to be chilly tomorrow! i love october!

new places

i ventured our today with my neighbor dick and found a coffee shop. i think it's called the coffee beanery or something like that. it's on the corner of osborne and florida. it's a quiet shop that serves breakfast and lunch. i had the biscuits and gravy which was pretty yummy, and he had ahsley hash. next week i hope to find another location. my goal is to find a new to me place every week so i can settle into the area.

new to the area

so we've finally moved the last box from the townhouse and placed amongst the others in our bungalow. the house was built in 1921 so i'm trying to get into the idea of the great depression- everytime i look at my closet space. we have a long and eventful journey ahead of us as we attempt to restore our little home to all it's glory. i will say it's great to finally have a home. the house has origional hard wood floors in the living and dining rooms, a fireplace (in the l/r) and a huge kitchen and gigantic back yard. we're even lucky enough to have the origional windows, although someone previously has unlovingly painted repetedly over the sashings and jams... that should be a lovely weekend endeavor! we have 3 bed rooms and 2 bathrooms (one of which is a porch conversion- but in a few years we're likely to restore the porch to it's entirety.) did i mention we hava a garage -of sorts- we think it's like an above ground basement with a leaky roof... another one on the agenda to receive some much needed TLC.
for the most part we'll be busy fixing her up and getting her all pretty for everyone to see.
good things come to those who wait right?
